A new chapter in our life.

Des ate dog food today.

The end. :D

p.s. K, so he didn't really EAT it, just tasted it for a few seconds. He was smacking his lips though...

While I still have a computer for the next 15 minutes...

Just a quick post before the hubs gets up for work and takes his computer with him:

Des has figured out how to sign "more" in baby sign language!! I actually thought just the other day that he may never do it. He showed no interest in it and liked to yell for his food. Now he does it pretty much all the time, for anything and everything--if he wants to be picked up, if he wants to play toys, if he wants his mom to feed him lots and lots of ice cream...he was doing it in his crib this morning when I went to go get him! Crazy kid. Yup, so we're excited.

Sorry for the lack of photos. Its too hard to stick them on Kolt's laptop and transfer and then put them on the normal computer too (someday). So it will be a big picture party when I'm back to normal computer-mode, k? See you then!

All I want for Christmas...

is my DANG COMPUTER FIXED!! (since I already got my christmas present!) The hubby started to "fix" our computer after it stopped allowing the internet to work and its still in shambles. How am I posting this, you might ask? He brought home his work computer so he could game. Nice. And I thought at least through this whole thing we could lose the internet gaming.

Oh and happy birthday to us. Yes, the hubs and I share the same exact birthday. I celebrated already by making him get out of bed to give the baby his pacifier at three thirty this morning. :D

Just so you know...

There's an extreme shortage of internet access at my house so yeah....sorry.

Thanksgiving

Des had a fun first Thanksgiving. He figured out how to army crawl like a champ just the day before. Now, there's no stopping him! He loved playing with his grandma Renee, grandpa Rob, and his aunts and uncle too:

He got to preview a Christmas present from grandma since his hands were so cold...
...all because he got to go on his FIRST FOUR-WHEELER RIDE! and he loved it! LOVED it. He had this same serious look on his face the whole time but as soon as we took him off he started yelling, or when auntie Jessi turned off the ignition. He didn't like that either. It was pretty funny.
So Thanksgiving was fun. Kolt's aunt Cindi and her family came over and it was super fun to see all them. They like to play crazy card games with Renee so they were all laughing pretty hard for most of the time. The food was good, company was great, and Des got his first taste of motorized action.

Today I'm missing...

My sister and her family....

...My baby brother Mike...

...this cute kid previously mentioned as the family of my sister...

...this cute kid too, also previously mentioned, and since aged (but its such a cute picture!!)...

Thank heavens I was able to visit my mom yesterday as well as my brother brian. We'll be spending Thanksgiving with Kolt's family and I'm super excited! Its going to be fun to have Des play aaaaaalll day with someone else! :D He'd get that at my house too, but the in-laws don't get to play as often so its extra fun. I'm just not going to get to see my sister this year since they're staying in NM. And Mike's been gone to college so I don't see him very often either. One thing I'm extra grateful is having such a great family on both sides. That's the blessing I count most often.

a jog down memory lane

Taffee asked me to post a picture of myself as a baby to see if des has any of my qualities. In the picture-finding process I came across a few others that made me smile.

So here's my baby photo. I was a year old at this point...you can see the little blue vein that goes across my nose. He has that. Go me!

This one made me laugh...I posted it for Jenna (and Britt if she reads my blog). Sr year. I'm only just recovering.

One of my most favorite pictures of all. My brother Todd (checking out his own boots), me, and my cousin Tige (or was it Shawn?) was that even spelled right? I'm so confused. Anyway...I remember he let me ride on his back and I was a cowgirl for reals!!

And we all remember this. The engagement photo. Love it. Love the white socks. And I LOVE my red hair...sniff. If I wasn't so poor and so attached to my healthy hair I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

So that's all for now folks! Today is a random day, I've sewn ties, played with the baby, set up a still-life to paint (took pictures of it because it won't be for a while), gone through my photos, blogged this...and its still before noon. Woh. I'm out of control!

Some photos

I was busy blogging and then I turned around and this is where I found Des. Not sure how he managed to get UNDER the chair...I guess we need to get to work on baby proofing. And yes, I paused to snap a few incriminating photos before retrieving him. I'm a good mom, I swear!

Des has monkey toes. He uses his feet for everything! I caught him holding his bottle with his toes and laughed out loud!

What we've been doing

Mostly a lot of sitting around in our pj's. Des got some new ones the other day that are all fuzzy and warm so he won't freeze at night. And we got these ones out because, well, they fit now. Even though they're 12 month jammies. Yeaaah.

We played with Jaci the other day while her mommy was at the dr's. It was fun! They were bottle buddies. Des wasn't very hungry but as soon as Jaci wanted her bottle, so did Des. And when Des layed down on his blanket, Jaci wanted next to him! They had loads of fun!
And they played puzzles another night. Jaci is almost a year so she could actually try to stick the pieces back in. Des just thought they were a fun chew toy!

Spell it Naturally

Lately I've been helping my mother-in-law with her new business. (it runs in the family, I guess!) We've hit several craft fairs and sell my ties and her photography. It's called Spell It Naturally and you pretty much do just that. Jessi, her daughter (my sister-in-law) took a bunch of black and white pictures of stuff that makes letters and you spell out whatever you want. Cool, huh? Most people like to do their last name but some choose to do HOME or LOVE or whatever else they can think up that's shorter than 8 letters.

I've been putting together her website www.SpellitNaturally.com . Its still under construction but you could check it out. It makes fun Christmas presents and wedding presents. And her information is posted so yeah.

Did I do that?!

While I was making a mess of my own rearranging our storage closet, Des discovered the diapers. I didn't complain, he was one happy little guy!

I love my mommy!!

Today is my mother's birthday. She's spending the day driving back from New Mexico. I think it will be a birthday she'll actually enjoy! What? With no dishes to do, nothing making her clean/cook, she can just sit and sleep if she wants to...sounds very relaxing.

Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! You are awesome and I love you forever and ever!

And if you look at this photo, it looks like Kolt's the one in the dress. hahaha!! I was looking for a more fitting one of my mother, but this one made me laugh out loud. Des looked at me like I was crazy. Besides, I love my mom in heels. So cute!

Caution: Little miracles might be extremely embarrasing, but thats why they humble you.

**a disclaimer: this isn't meant to be a "sob story". Just the facts, jack, and we're dealing.**

Its funny how this life works. Its no secret that money is much more than tight at our house. Its almost strangling us that the current moment. But we're getting by thanks to several tiny miracles.
The latest goes like this:

I waited for Kolt to come home from work so I could go hit up Walmart for some groceries. When he finally arrived he decided he wanted to go running (and I want to support this new endeavor as much as possible) so I said I'd take the wee-one with me.

Everything was going swimmingly until I hit the check-out. I had already purchased Des' items thanks to an amazing program called WIC (to which I tried for SEVERAL months to get on, and finally did!!). You only need the vouchers and I always have those in my purse. Then came the regular groceries, chatting with the super-sweet clerk-lady, and piling everything back into the cart. I reached into my bag, swished the hand around a bit, and then proceded to plunge my head into the vacant cavity. I forgot my wallet. Yeaaah.

Reeewind to Sunday morning:

It was fast sunday, on daylight savings no less, and things were more than tense. We were...discussing...finances and tithing and what-not. Somewhere during the debate I said, "I'd rather starve than not pay tithing." It was one of those conversations. I placed my wallet in my church bag and we proceeded with the day.

Back to Monday evening:

My mind was racing as the "worst case scenario, grocery store edition" played out. The nice clerk was very kind and said I could call my hubby and just have him read the debit card number or they could suspend the transaction and I could go and get my wallet and come back. So I called Kolt. We tried the debit card numbers over, and over, and over again. For some reason they weren't going through (we DID have money, just for the record. I'm not sure why they weren't working). And all that money in the checking account is actually all going to bills so we couldn't really afford to pay for groceries anyway. I had some cash I was going to use stashed in my forgotten wallet.

At this point, I've completely turned beet red and trying not to cry said I would go back and pick up my wallet and return to pay for the cart-load of food. (you might ask, why didn't kolt just drive there and bring your wallet? Well, friends, that's because the jeep isn't working and isn't registered nor will it be in the next two weeks for lack of funds).

This is when the little miracle occured. A completely humbling experience. The lady in line behind me pipes up, "Oh, I'll just pay for these, no problem!" And I turned around, wide eyed and red-faced, to reply, "No, it's ok, I'll just go home and get my wallet." To which she replied, "No, really, I'll pay for it." And swiped her card.

Angels have debit cards.

I cried all the way home, after thanking her and letting her hug me. She said "she was glad that she was rich that night". I still can't believe it. Its not like it was twenty bucks. It was a whole week of food. I patted myself on the back for letting someone with only a few items cut in front of me last week.

This has turned into a really long post, but the moral of the story is: sometimes God makes life easier. Even if it doesn't solve the problem in any shape or form, he makes things easier. I still have a list of things we "need" that keeps getting pushed back. Des keeps going to church in socks because he doesn't really need shoes. The bills get paid, although some not exactly on time, but no one gets mad and we're ok with that. The jeep working and legal would be peachy but we're saving money on gas, and where do I need to go anyway?

And because I paid tithing, quite literally, I forgot my wallet and got myself a little miracle.

Happy Halloween!

Des' first Halloween was...like every other day. But we still carved a pumpkin! And by we I meant me. I carved a pumpkin. It was inspired by Des.

And we went all out on the costume. He was an m'n'm. We didn't have to go outside so we didn't worry about pants. Its pretty much the same story for any other day...

And Des discovered candy. He got as far as the wrappers and was sold! He never even tasted chocolate. Although G'ma Hatt sent him some cotton candy...not so sure we're going to try that either.

and we also did some work in our backyard. We had to try out Des' new coat!

All in all, it was a fun day! We only had to answer our door twice for trick-or-treaters so we even have some candy left over.

Happy Halloween everybody!

Des' new clothes

Des got some new clothes from Grandma Renee and auntie Jessi. Finally, this poor kid has some long sleeves to wear on these cold, cold October days!

And he also got a new coat! We can venture outside without feeling like my child is going to freeze. Its a good feeling.

And in other news, this is Yamori, Guardian of Cenarius. Apparently he's worth a screen shot.

I spoke too soon

Des was approved! You can find him here and look him up by his number.

Destry D.

Baby Boy
ID: 407160174

So I guess he's too cool for GAP

des yelling for more cheerios, "Give me more cheerios, woman!"

I never heard back from the GAP contest. Whatever.

Things at the Davies are interesting these days. Des has:

1. gained more weight. I'm pretty sure he's in the 20's now. 23 on my mom's scale but we all know that's a little off.
2. started to eat chunks of food like bananas, cooked sweet potatoes, cheerios, cheese, and bread.
3. discovered (only yesterday) that he can roll consecutively and get places (or toys).
4. begun to "gum" his bottom gum, like he's growing teeth or something.
5. figured out he can yell at people and get their attention. This is especially fun to do in church. To strangers. Who happen to look at him once and smile.
6. started to feed himself, or at least tries.
7. grown enough stomach and back muscles to sit up without having the boppy to catch him.
8. experienced snow falling and DOES NOT LIKE IT!!

not quite yet

I guess they're still working on approving des for the gap contest. So be patient! I'll let you know.

Fall into the Gap....

...between Tim's teeth. That's what I think about every time I think of GAP--ya, know, the store? My little brother Brian made that up about an unfortunate kid in grade school who had some orthodontic issues. Not the nicest thing, but it's stuck with me through the years.

Aaaaanyway, my buddy Jillyn suggested I enter Des into the GAP's casting call/contest online. So I did. Just like that. I took picture after picture of Des this morning and he wouldn't smile for a single one! Out of all the days in his 6 and 1/2 months of living and he chooses today not to smile. So we came back later and tried again and I managed to get a few. It actually took the dog to get him to smile. Nice. I see who really is on top of this totem poll.

After they approve him, everyone can go vote. Or just see what the big hoopla is about. But while you're there, you might as well, right? Right. So by the time you all are reading this, he should be up and running. We squeaked in just before the deadline.

So go here and support Des in his big debut!

a new car seat

If you didn't know, Des is pretty big. If you've ever held him, you'd know that but some of you out there haven't had the chance. Sorry. Its life altering.

Des' current car seat is the one in which we brought him home from the hospital. It's nice, race car red, and still in great condition (we bought it because it would last through more than one kid). It, however, only holds up to 22 lbs. After that, your behemoth of a baby will become a human projectile and swiftly decapitate you on it's way out your windshield in the event of a collision. Or so I'm told.

I might have made that last part up.

The moral of the story is, Des is swiftly rounding out the teens and building muscle mass through the early twenties (poundage-wise). He's not quite to 22 lbs yet, but getting close so we bought him a new car seat. We pulled it out of the box to test it out, see how it fits. Its huge. And pretty awesome. And poor little des can only bob his head and wave his little arms a bit because he just fits in there snug, its pretty cute.

And because these pictures were pretty cute too, I thought I'd throw them in the mix. We went to Fillmore, UT this past weekend to visit the family and take part in a craft fair with Baby Windsor. Kolt's aunt LuRey and cousin Taffee made the drive from Green River to play for the day and it was super fun! The babies loved playing on the four-wheelers in Grandpa Rob's shop.

and I just realized that I forgot to take a picture of Natalie and her motorcycle. She was loving the fact that it was just her size, had training wheels, and a box really close to it so she could get on and off herself. She was having a blast too!

my mommy sense is tingling...

Destry was happily chewing on his frozen key-teethers while I was turned away. Kobe was busy playing with his toy frog. Then my mommy sense started tingling...turns out, Kobe decided he wanted Des to throw his froggie for him. Yeaaaah. So, so very gross. Da frog became da next chewy for Des. yuuuuuuuck.
