that was it!

and it was only 8:30.

So Des got put in time-out just now (although I didn't call it that...I didn't call it much. Just "that's it!" and off he went). You see, I just got him up from his morning "nap"--if you can call it that. More like, he got up at 6:20 and ate two bites and then we went back to bed after 40 minutes of playing. We went out to the toys, I laid down on the ground, and Des promptly walked over and smacked me on the face with a toy bus. Then proceeded to laugh. And then tried again with his hand. We skipped most of the "that really hurts and mommy doesn't like that" routine and he went back to bed for a few minutes.

Where did my sweet 1-year old go? Apparently he decided he needs to be 2 now. Sad day.

p.s. he seems to be doing better now, although I decided laying down on the ground probably wasn't a wise thing this morning. Hence this post.

Peaches and more peaches

I canned some peaches the other day. Thank heavens my grandma and aunt came over in the morning to help with the sliced ones. It only took us a few hours to do four batches which was way better than what I was expecting to do on my own. Then I finished the rest later that night with help from my dad. We made peach freezer jam and it is sooo good! I even dream about it at night (although that particular dream ended with the toast dropped on the floor and the jam went everywhere. Then I woke up and almost did the heave-ho right over the side of my bed--luckily only one of a few instances of feeling yucky so far).  Anyway! Peaches: DONE.

Side note: if anyone wants some spaghetti squash or tomatoes we have a ton. My dad went a little nuts planting the garden this year. Just come and pick 'em. :D

Good clean fun (sorta)

Last Sunday we were out in our field looking for golf balls and the irrigation ditch was running. Kolt made up a game where Des throws the golf balls in the water and Kobe goes in a fishes them out. It was actually very entertaining and everyone was having a good time until Des got a little too close to the edge and PLOP! in he went, head first. I fished him out by his pants pronto and we kinda chuckled while he officially flipped out (this kid is not a swimmer. Doesn't do cold so well...) The best part was there was a cyclist riding past just then so he got to witness the whole thing. Child protective services didn't show up so I guess he thought it was kinda funny too. We ditched the clothes since they were now soaking wet and the game continued.

notice the golf ball in mid flight!
here goes kobe
trying to fish it out. He wouldn't put his face in the water at all.
grabbing the golf ball...
Daddy showing him a stick to throw (I think it's a stick...)

I guess it's time...

You might wanna turn it up a bit...

More farm pics

Des had a blast at the Thanksgiving Point Farm Country doo-dad (exhibit? experience? whats the word here??) the other day. We went with a bunch of mom's from the ward with kids under 5 and even I had fun. They have a bunch of nice animals you can pet and look at, as well as a tractor ride or pony ride (seen here). Here are some fun pictures:

First there were some teenager chickens
Are these supposed to be cute?
And then we went outside to view some bigger animals

Mom, I can't see!!
We were trying to see this:
Aww a baby calf!!

Hey heifer.
"I just wanna pet you...."
This was my favorite photo. I turned around from looking at the cute baby calf and Des was over there just reaaaaching trying to get the momma cow to come closer.  He's so unafraid when it comes to animals now that he has goats, a donkey, several dogs, and chickens (plus the occasional horse) to play with every day. I just try to keep him from being trampled (or pecked--those chickens know when des comes there's usually an apple for them).

Destry Rides Again

A lot of the "older generation" refers to an old movie anytime we tell them what Des' name is. They say, "Destry rides again!" every time. Just like that. "What's his name? Destry rides again!" Its what I think about every time he's around anything remotely cowboy.

Picture Des. At a farm. His momma's thinking, "Destry rides again!" and then he does. Well, not again but he rides and he likes it. Until he signs "All done" and dives off. But luckily his momma knows him all too well and was there to catch him before he really left the pony.

See the look on his face? He makes this same face when he rides the 4-wheeler with his dad. You'd think he wasn't having fun but you try to take him off the 4-wheeler and he won't let you. He's "concentrating" I guess.

A side note: you see that rather large horse (although not really, but its next to a bunch of ponies so it looks huge) in the background? I asked Des which one he wanted to ride and he pointed to it. I told him maybe next time....

neat treasures

My grandparents cleaned out some nick-nacks they had taking up space in their storage and let us take some home. I got there third (after my aunt and cousin both picked through the loot) and luckily they didn't really want much: just a few pictures and s&p shakers.  I filled up my trunk (which is really unlike me since I try to only take stuff I have a place and purpose for) but I figured this was pretty much the only time I'd get to have some of the memories from my grandparents.

I took home some books, some china from Japan (when my gpa served in the Navy), dishes from my great-grandma and an old black chest--just to name a few of my finds.

My favorite items were these:
I hung them up in Des' room and *hopefully* will be getting another photo of the ship my great-grandpa served on: the USS PUEBLO. My grandpa found it the day before but then it disappeared. I brought home a picture of all his crew and their wives but thats not going on the wall. Maybe for a Halloween post I'll scan the picture and show you why. A little freaky...

My other favorite find (and Des' too!) was these cuties:
S&P shakers from my great grandma Jean. Des carried them all around the house when we were at my grandparents going through stuff. Cute huh? My grandma kept trying to put them back in the up-for-grabs pile and I had to keep stealing them away again.

Fun stuff, fun memories. Thanks grandma!!

More new stuff....

I crocheted these slippers for Des the other day. Well...mostly I crocheted some slippers and they happen to fit Des. But they turned out super cute! (side note: how weird does crocheted look?? I tried typing crochet'd but the red zig-zag lines told me it was wrong.)

here's a close-up:
Awww!! Puff balls!! hehehe
Here's what Des thinks about them:

"Get these crazy puff ball thingies off me!!"

Sigh. They do make walking on the tile a little dangerous so I suppose it will be one less slip-and-fall if he refuses to wear them.

A new bike!!

One thing about des: he loves bikes. LOVES them. We could be running and playing at a park having a great time and some kid rolls up on two wheels and it's all over. Have to go see the bike.

Our neighbors have a lot of kid toys out front of their house and that's the first place Des goes if he can cross the great gravel plains of the driveway. (Usually I let him out without his shoes so he stays in the yard--tricky, tricky!!) His favorite toys are the McDonalds colored ride-in car thing (you know, the one with the yellow top and the red bottom...with the arched top?) and the pink big-wheel.

I was driving past a few yard sales on Saturday when there it was. And for the right price too. Two dolla'.

Ladies and gents, meet Des new favorite toy!

Loves it. LOOOOVES it. Like can't get him off of it to come inside because it's really time to eat lunch and mom is starving and can we please just go eat some CHEESE?? RASPBERRIES?? ICECREAM?? He wasn't buying it. He rolls up and down and up and down our little 12 foot walkway over and over again. And then tries to ride in the grass (doesn't work) and tries to ride in the gravel drive-way (doesn't work) so he rolls up and down the walkway again. He can't even reach the peddles but that's alright with him. He has his own bike and it makes him happy!

Des got a new shirt!

So the family Davies went to Mexico a few weeks ago (without us, of course. How rude?!)  jk  :D  but they brought us back a few fun gifts, one of which was a t-shirt for Des. We put it on this morning and it was a bit big...but still cute!
He wasn't entirely happy about modeling it for the camera. I was asking him to stick his arms out reaaallly big and this is what I got. Nice. But he liked it, I swear!

On a side note...this is what my camera is doing about 50% of the time now...
Do you see this perfectly cute little pose? Do you see how the picture is just so slightly out of focus??!! It does this ALL THE TIME. It makes me crazy. I guess it had a good run of 5 years. Good thing we're working on getting out of debt and when we do we get to buy a nice, new, waaaaay huge upgraded camera. I. Can't. Wait.  If I told kolt right now to go buy it, he totally would that's how excited we are. But I have to stay strong and stay focused. By the first of the year we'll have three big debts paid off. yay!!

my thumb, my thumb, my thumb is on Fi-yah!!

Does anyone have a good method for washing off Jalapeno juices from your hands? I've washed them three times now and my thumb is still burning!! Kinda a spicy little treat as I suck on it trying to calm the fire...but still. I'd like to have skin still in the morning.

This is what Des loves to do these days

He loves to torment the poor dog!! He thinks its the funniest thing he's ever done, every time. He's actually collapsed on the floor giggling one time. Craaazy kid. He's going to be a clown--always trying to be silly. But it makes me laugh too so as long as we can keep the dog safe, we're doing alright.

p.s. sorry for the reaaaaaaaally annoying high pitched weirdness going on in the audio. Not sure what it is or why it recorded like that.

p.p.s and the dog seems to be doing better every day! Not sure why but he's even lost some weight. So yay! Maybe its all this fresh air and room to run. We may never know.
