Destry's first set of gear

Des got a set a gear for his first birthday. Today, we tried it on and it finally fit! (yes, it took two whole years to grow into it.) He was pretty dang stoked to wear it too.

post edit: Destry came running into my room this morning at 6:30 asking to get his motorcycle pants on. he already had one glove on...Now he's outside "riding his motorcycle" and happily screaming, "VAAAAAAAAAAAM! VAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!"

A boy and his oatmeal

Gray loves oatmeal.








see?  Mom, however, does not like cleaning up after oatmeal too often. and notice his sad eyes in the first picture? this was right before he started getting sick yet again last week. But now we're on the mend and he's on a strict "nobody holds him but us" policy for a while (aka he doesn't' go to church and get passed around) because the poor kid just can't take much more of it.

Oh and he's a champion crawler now. He figured it out pretty quick and now he tries to pull himself up on stuff. Its quite exciting.

Trilobites!

We went hunting for trilobites this past weekend. oh man. I was stoked and it ended up pretty fun. Whats a trilobite, you might ask? lemme show you:

I didn't find many big ones, mostly because I was on baby duty and I apparently haven't swung a hammer for an extended period in my life (think blisters). But the crew (kolt's family) brought in some beauties, the biggest being about 3 inches wide! It was our own little Cambrian-era style of Gold Rush. I totally recommend it.

Pretty much you find a spot where a layer of shale is sticking out and you start chipping it apart. And you find these cool little "bugs" in between the layers. Des had a blast banging his hammer on rocks too so it was good for the whole family. (well, besides Gray. he sat there trying to eat the rocks so we had to keep a close eye on him.)

des brought me "a pretty flower" this morning. I set it next to the remnants of the flowers Kolt brought me last week. my boys are good to me.

Lilacs are one of my favorite flowers to have in the yard. I grew up with them and they'll always remind me of home.

Remember this post? Its like a yearly tradition now...except I lost all my presets so we need to get those back asap and we could do a lilac assortment.

i'm going to put our address between the branches at the bottom. At least I think I will... something will go there all word-like and stuff.  and then a nice simple frame from IKEA and it will go on our wall. awww.
