my new table

Kolt and I haven't had a kitchen table since the first year we were married. Which is kinda nuts since we've been married for almost 7 years now and only two have we been at my parents. That leaves almost 4 years eating on the couch/floor/standing/whatever. nice.

I've been on the search for a table ever since we found our new place and last weekend I found it!

The good news: it looks super similar to a table from Restoration Hardware
the bad news: it was stained something ugly in a previous life and it was all flaking off after being outside for an indeterminate amount of time. I actually liked the weathering it got, but the finish was still holding on so we had to take care of it.

the leg on the left is sanded, the right is how we found the table. it looks way worse in person.

these brass plates really made the table awwwwwwwwwwsome!! I was super stoked. even better than the one at Restoration Hardware.
The bits and pieces that are missing in the photo are just needing to be glued back on. I think I'm going to leave the legs untreated and then wax the top of the table so we can use it to eat on and everything else a table gets used for. What do you think? I'm pretty sure RH doesn't treat their tables to keep the light/matte finish. Am I crazy for not finishing my table? perhaps I'll just do the top in a clear lacquer...

i love flowers

My parents have worked on their yard for years. As a result, there are beautiful flowers all over the place for me to photograph! I love it. Here are some from the other day:

I think I might try this one in watercolors. I love the ruffles and the shadows

although this would be a pretty one too...

Now that we're moving, I'm excited to plant flowers in my own yard. I'm on the lookout for these cuties but i'm not sure they do very well in Utah (even as an annual...) At least they're difficult to find. I might just order some seeds and see how it goes.

he used to just lay there

newborn gray
Now he's all over the place. Speed crawling, chasing, laughing, climbing, falling, standing... this kid is starting to make me tired! if only he were a bit more capable in keeping up with his brother, they would have so much fun. But I guess when he finally gets there, they'll be getting into twice the trouble. Gray's favorite thing is to egg his brother on when he's being naughty. He'll sit there and laugh and laugh and Des, the performer, will flash his little grin and keep on going--despite my stern instructions to stop. Oh well.

In other news, we're getting him to sleep longer than 5 hours each night. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!  (his brother was way easier at getting to sleep, for the record.) But I took advantage of my parents being gone this weekend and let him cry during the night. Seemed to do the trick. We're on night three so we'll see how it goes.

And I suppose that's it. Everyone is doing swell.
