MUDBOG!!

This weekend consisted of us driving down to Fillmore, Utah to help the in-laws with the annual ATV Jamboree. One of the highlights is the Mudbog. Pretty much they make a really deep, thick pit of mud and have contests to see who can drive through it. Its pretty fun to watch and I guess even more fun to drive through it. They also have races called "dash for cash" where they have the different age groups run through the mud to get $10 on the other side. Its pretty funny to watch, the little kids get stuck and the bigger kids just face plant because they get going too fast and when one goes, the rest of them usually trip over them. Thats some good redneck fun.

So, so very tired

just sayin'. I do have some smashing video of what we did yesterday in Fillmore and I'll post it today sometime. But now I'm headed for more sleep. We got home way too late and then i had baby duty all night. ugh.

The last few nights have been challenging with the wee one. He's starting to get hungry a lot sooner so he wakes up soooooooooooo many times a night I forget how often I'm up. I'm thinking its about time for him to meet rice ceral. They can be friends while mommy gets to have her all night sleeping parties back.

My sweet baby boy

a little update:

the wee-one has been suffering from Thrush for the past month (almost). Originally the doctor gave him some sticky yellow medicine that we had to do four times a day, one mL in each cheek (you know how much liquid a baby's mouth can hold? not that much.) which resulted in me trying to catch the sticky yellow goo as it came back out of the mouth. Four times a day. Usually I was not very successful either. This we did for two whole bottles worth.

And it still wasn't gone.

So, back to the doctors we went. Upon careful observation his doctor announced that it indeed had not gone away. (I could've told you that and saved us the time and 20 bucks it cost us to show up!) Not hard to see. Aaaanyway, she prescribed something different. I guess its much stronger because its only once a day and he only has to swallow .75mL. That was Monday. The thrush is almost gone now! And we're breathing a collective sigh of relief. Why, you might ask?

For those who don't know, Thrush is an infection in the mouth. Not just any infection. Oh no, no, no. A yeast infection. The doctor said she thinks it was because they gave him a course of antibiotics in the NICU when he was born and it predetermined him for Thrush (since the antibiotics killed off his good bacteria in his mouth and let the little yeasties roam wild and free). And for him, not a huge deal because it wasn't causing him any discomfort (although sometimes it can) it was a concern for me because his little infected mouth has a lot to do with certain feeding procedures. Which could get infected.

I hear it feels a lot like fire.

Thaaaaank heavens I didn't have to experience a yeast infection in the milk-glands. Thats all I'm gonna say. Thank heavens.

So now that his little mouth is turning back to a lovely shade of pink (previously covered in the tell-tale patches of white) I can stop playing Russian roulette 8 times a day.

Destry so lovingly demonstrated what the beginning stages of Thrush looks like. Freaky picture, right? It makes me laugh every time I look at it. But this was at his blessing. Thanks to my super smart sister for pointing it out in the first place. She's just so dang smart!

Musical Furniture

Yesterday I played a great game of musical furniture. All caused by the addition of a changing table for the nursery. The problem was that there was a couch in there to begin with and both wouldn't fit soooo...

the couch went into my room but that caused a problem because we had our dresser in there. Sooooo that went into our closet.

but that caused a problem because that was where we kept our safe and both wouldn't fit. sooo that went to another undisclosed location :D

and this is the changing table. I spruced it up a bit with some paint because it has some water-damage. And I got sick of painting and we wouldn't have enough to finish the project so we went for the two-toned approach. For once in two years I had to figure out what to put in the cabinet because it was EXTRA STORAGE SPACE!!!! Woh, nelly. I am stoked. Still figuring out what to put in there....

What Kolt got from Destry

awwww, isn't it cute?! I figured I'd share it with you all because I was pretty proud of myself...you know how hard it is to get a three-month-old baby to keep his hand straight while you apply the paint and then transfer it to paper? Really hard. He still wants to keep his hands in fists while he sleeps so yeah. But we did it after a few attempts. And his fingernails still have a little green tinge to them but hey, it was worth it!
